Bats return to Little Rock school for 2nd time

Erica Foley came home this afternoon to hear her daughter say she had a very frightening day in class.

“I saw a bat at my school. It was chasing a little boy down the hallway,” said second grader Carlisa Elmore.

Foley’s daughter goes to Bale Elementary and today two bats were found inside the building just before dismissal. The second grader says school leaders quickly alerted teachers and students.

“They came on the intercom and told us to close the doors in the classroom,” said Elmore.

This is not the first time Bale Elementary has dealt with a bat infestation. Last Friday, leaders had to cancel instruction because of the problem.
With brooms, termite specialists cleared out 30 bats over the weekend and just yesterday, parents say they got a notice addressing the issue.

“The letter said they were sorry they had to shut the school down. They had pest control out here and they said it was taken care of. But apparently it wasn’t if she came home today and said there was a bat in the school,” said Foley.

Tonight, maintenance workers went back to the school hoping to fix the problem

“Of course, we thought we had all the holes secured. The bats can go through very small holes; the size maybe a mouse could crawl through,” said Little Rock School district spokesperson Tiffany Hoffman.

Leaders say there is no health threat and school will be open Friday.
