Heavy snowfall was cause of collapse in Armenian cave – Nature Protection Ministry

The heavy snowfall and the ensuing melting were the cause for the collapse in Armenia’s Mozrov Cave in the Vayots Dzor Region, according to Nature Protection Ministry Press Secretary Hasmik Mkrtchyan.

In her words, a 50-m3 soil had collapsed 2-3 metes from the Cave’s entrance. And upon the Minister’s instruction, a sign was placed at the Cave’s entrance to prevent people from entering it.

According to Hasmik Mkrtchyan, a future possible restoration in the Cave is under the jurisdiction of the Culture Ministry.

Activists from the “We Will Not Remain Silent” Youth Initiative had informed, on Monday, about this collapse at the Mozrov Cave, which is included in Armenia’s State List of Immovable Historical and Cultural Monuments.
